PSHA BECOMES MEMBER ORGANIZATION
The Performance Horse Show Association (PSHA) today announced their transition to a membership organization. The move is a natural evolution answering the need for a coordinated strong owners group that serves all facets of the Performance Horse Industry. The need for an all inclusive group dedicated to the defense, preservation and promotions of the show horse that is judged on gait.
PSHA was formed to fill a void in the Show Horse Industry. Faced with the introduction of draconian legislation that would destroy the Tennessee Walking Horse and the other 2 breeds included in the Whitfield Bill; with the industry in disarray and the major member organizations under takeover attack by HSUS advocates it was obvious that a defense could not be mounted from those quarters , another means must be found.
A small group of owners organized and hired a lobbyist to begin a defense of the industry. Under the name Performance Show Horse Association they gathered the information necessary to combat the allegations of the HSUS driven Congressman Ed Whitfield. While PSHA worked behind the scenes and at the DC level with politicians from states that had the most Tennessee Walking Horses, the grassroots stakeholders began a tea Party like campaign manning phones and sending letters.
The turning point came after the November hearing on HR 1518, when the two groups began collaborating. From this collaboration grew the Congressional Packet of facts, statistics and data refuting the lies of HSUS.
While PSHA worked to encourage the development of legislation to protect the breed and establish fair objective inspection under an independent HIO, the joint group developed the Flash Card Twitter campaign, the highly successful and nationally recognized Thunderclap campaign; wrote responses to HSUS, American Horse Council and other groups supporting the Whitfield Legislation and coordinated calls to Congress.
The successful introduction of legislation to preserve the breed by Congressman Marsha Blackburn, Hall Rogers and Senators Lamar Alexander and Mitch McConnell, Rand Paul and Johnny Isakson (HR4098/S2193) enabled the industry to work FOR something instead of just against HSUS.
This cooperation and the start of a coordinated defense throughout the industry made taking the next step obvious; it was time to formalize the Performance Show Horse Association as a true owner/member group. A group that can be an efficient strike force against harmful legislation, a repository of information and a means to educate the Public. To accomplish this, now is time that Performance Horse Owners must join together and pool their talents, resources and will aiming towards the immediate goal of the preservation of the Performance Horse and the Show Horse Industry and a plan for the future.
